Pulp Figures New Drawing Room Detectives

| Tuesday, 28 October 2014 | 1 comments |
For those who would like to take their games down a slightly more gentlemanly route, rather than resorting to violence, Pulp Figures have a new set of miniatures in the works titled Drawing Room Detectives.

I must admit, I love the depth of character that these miniatures have. They would make a fine addition to any pulp gamers collection and, to my mind,  would be especially useful for Call of Cthulhu.

Astounding Tales 2nd Edition available as a PDF

| Thursday, 4 September 2014 | 0 comments |
Howard Whitehouse's Pulp Action Library have just recently released his Astounding Tales 2nd ed. rules as a PDF.

They were previously available as a printed book from The Virtual Armchair General, and this PDF is simple that version, but in digital form. Howard will be revising the rules into a 3rd edition, eventually, but in the mean time I would highly recommend picking up these rules at the bargain price of only $5.

Pulp Alley First Impressions...

| Thursday, 31 July 2014 | 3 comments |
The other day I received a parcel containing Pulp Alley, it's two expansions, the card set and the first four figures in the Pulp Alley range.

I received the parcel from Statuesque Miniatures in the UK and the three books were all sent in comic book bags with a card support.
I haven't had a chance to read the books yet, but my first impression is that they look very nicely produced, well laid out and graphically very interesting. However, considering the three books are all only comic book sized (260mm x 170mm, 10 1/4" x 6 3/4"), with a similar page count, I do think that the they are priced very much on the high side. The three books and the card deck all cost £47.

Once I get a chance to read the rules and play a couple of games I may be a bit happier with the price as I hear it is a fun system, and I am looking forward to playing it. I feel the price point may be putting some players off though...

As for the miniatures, I got these at the introductory price (which has now finished) and I am extrememly pleased with them, they have some beautiful detail on them and they are very well cast with virtually no mould lines at all. The minis are sculpted by Andrew Rae of Statuesque Miniatures and I have been planning to add some of his figures to my collection for some time. I am very pleased with these.

Pulp Figures have just announced a new release.

The Palanquin of Sinister Dr. Koo!

This is a lovely set and I can immediately see a use for it in games of Osprey's A Fist Full of Kung Fu.

Airlock Games Counterblast Retro Aliens

| Tuesday, 28 January 2014 | 0 comments |
Airlock Games have just posted some photos of a new alien faction for their forthcoming Counterblast game (to be launched on Kickstarter in February).

Counterblast itself seems to have a very Retro Sci-Fi feel, and if these new miniatures are anything to go by it should be worth following.

Some of the other figures in the range have a traditional anthropomorphic feel to them, which personally doesn't appeal to me, but I think these cephalopods (called the Edofleini) definitely have a place in my Retro Sci-Fi collection...

ADDENDUM:

Airlock Games website seems to have disappeared! However, Counterblast is now available from Bombshell Miniatures.
